I would be very happy with anything focused Intel motherboards.
My knowledge is also around Nvidia GPU's. But I think the brand of GPU is agnostic for this conversation.

To my knowledge, I have used Intel proprietary motherboards with Yorkfield Xeon cores...they have worked perfectly!
Ah yes, on one a fan power failed, so I had to switch it to molex power...& that is it! Been using those boards for quite some time, 4 of them...now they are retired mostly!
Comparing them to Supermicro, well 2 of Supermicro failed...& none from intel failed with 2 of them running X3360 on Windows 10 & 2 of them running Q9400S on Linux.

I am focusing on Volunteer priced GPU systems.
I am planning to write an Article about fairly simple solutions for GPU crunching. I will limit my article to the AMD solutions I have worked with.
I am perfectly aware there are Intel solutions. I lack the first hand experience to address them.
