Good news- I actually

Good news- I actually got 21.1 (Mint Mate) to boot, updated Nvidia drivers, installed BOINC (with still some difficulties) and got it running! Oddly, WCG tasks are quite a bit slower on Mint than Clear. Not sure why. I successfully added E@H and am running #1 GPU tasks for the first time. Initial thoughts:

Three concurrent tasks are finishing in ~4:52 which would equate to about 97 seconds per. GPU holds at 50C. I was not running other tasks at the time.

Uses ALOT of power.

Thank you all for the advice- I have the other system to still figure out but we have progress!

This is interesting but since most boinc systems don't reboot a lot I don't think the resulting improvements will do anything but make it less boring to boot high thread count systems.

Mostly the improvement will

Mostly the improvement will be to high core count servers who host hundreds of VM sessions.

Thanks! The larger article with additional detail will be posted in about a week. It gives a little more detail about how we integrated the idea(s) of distributed computing here at our school.

Would this be useful for anyone running Linux systems without gui desktop?
